This barbaric act perpetrated in the heart of our capital in December 2012, has horrified the country. One hopes and prays that the widespread anger and disgust will lead to significant changes in the Indian social and legal system.

The six men who attacked the girl are under trial. One of them, who was reportedly more brutal than the others, is trying to escape severe punishment befitting his crime by claiming to be a few months under 18 and technically a *minor*. Today's news is that the judge has accepted his claim, paving the way for lenient treatment that the law prescribes for a juvenile offender.
I agree wholeheartedly with the eminent man who remarked:
" If he is old enough to commit an adult crime like rape, the court should treat him as an adult. "
