This Page is in the process of getting polished.
Unlike rice, which is better unpolished, blogs require it.  It may not sparkle like diamonds, but with your participation this page will become, at the least, worth visiting!

What makes your body what it is? The base ingredient - like a pizza base -  is the genetic flour and yeast... the material that your biological parents gave you. The rest is made up of what you've been eating and drinking (yup - gulp) ever since you were born. Also recall that a huge portion of your body is water!
In short, genes and diet determine the size, shape and composition of your body.

Bottom line
We can't choose our parents; but we can choose what we put in our mouth.

Dieting - Is It Possible?

"The difference between the richest man and the poorest is but a day of hunger and an hour of thirst. " ... Kahlil Gibran

As long as one is alive, the body requires food and drink every few hours.

Don't imagine that it takes a lot of money and effort to keep yourself  fit. All one needs is a little common sense and a lot of will power!

There is no magic potion or miracle diet that can make you slim and trim. Witches' brew is as obsolete as Stonehenge. Food fads like crash diets, exotic pills and expensive powders are for suckers. You stand to lose your money and your health.

Mother Nature is kind and just. Eat what she provides in seasonal  abundance in the locality where you live.  Processed foods and preservatives are best avoided. Minimise the use of alcohol, sugar, salt, oil and fat.

Bottomline
Choose a diet that you can maintain 365 days in a year. Well, alright, you may indulge occasionally ... so let's amend the days to 360!

Exercise

Lifestyle changes are the best way to avoid many health problems of modern times: stress, obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, weakening muscles and bones. Walk it!

And please  before taking drugs like statins,  read this and discuss with a friendly doctor

Health is Wealth

My father often repeated that one should strive for "a healthy mind in a healthy body", quoting the Roman poet Juvenal who coined the phrase nearly 2000 years ago.  Here's how you can apply it to your lifestyle today:

Lifestyle Mantra

1. Eat wisely.
Eat  a reasonable quantity at regular intervals. Drink plenty of water.

2. Exercise regularly.
Keep yourself in condition with regular physical exercise and some outdoor activity at least once a week.

3. Clean your mind and body.
Spiritual cleansing is as important as physical hygiene. Pick your own stress-buster ... "Me Time"  like yoga, meditation, music, gardening or quiet walks.

Fable of the Two Wolves

Although I don't necessarily practice what is preached, I'm a sucker for fables, parables and anecdotes.

An old Cherokee told his grandson, "My son, there is a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy and truth."

The boy thought about it, and asked, "Grandfather, which wolf wins?"

The old man quietly replied, "The one you feed."

Pollution

Much is written about different kinds of pollution and what it does to harm us. Humankind  collectively continues to damage the environment to the detriment of every individual on planet earth. While no one denies that science and technology have contributed development and progress,  there is a downside.
Remind yourself by reading these Major Pollution Facts.

Dirty Hands

We all know that it is important to keep ones' hands clean. Learn more about it here.

Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit ... Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
