Alice Munro, Nobel Laureate

After many years, the Nobel prize for literature has been awarded to a writer in English. Alice Munro 82, has been writing short stories all her life - 14 published collections beginning with  Dance of the Happy Shades when she was 37. Her latest collection Dear Life came out in 2012 . She is considered a master of the contemporary short story - a Canadian Chekhov. Alice Munro is the 13th woman in the history of Nobel laureates for literature.

Her apparently simple literary style displays subtle wit and astute insights into human relationships. I like this quote from Alice Munro's book Too Much Happpiness: “Always remember that when a man goes out of the room, he leaves everything in it behind... When a woman goes out she carries everything that happened in the room along with her.”
