Today is Makar Sankranti. This celestial event marks the transition of  the sun  to the Makara (Capricorn) constellation, signifying a new beginning. It is also Pongal, the Tamil New Year.  Throughout India,  it is celebrated as a very auspicious day. Fine coincidence, methinks!
